Cloning is the process of making a genetically identical organism through asexual reproduction. There are two methods of cloning. The first one is called Blastomere separation that involves the splitting of a developing embryo after fertilization to give rise to two embryos. Both embryos are genetically identical to each other. The second method of cloning called nuclear transfer, results in the organism carrying the DNA or genetic information of only one parent. This method of nuclear transfer was used for cloning Dolly, the first cloned sheep born on July 5, 1996. Her creators, Ian Wilmut and his colleagues, transplanted a nucleus from a mammary gland cell of a Finn Dorsett sheep into an enucleated egg of a Scottish blackface ewe. Both cells were fused by electricity to undergo cell division and form an embryo. Then it was placed in the uterus of the blackface ewe to develop.
