According to Michael Fumento, the old saying “Boys will be boys” is now known as ‘Boys will be medicated.’ In addition, Fumento believes the old “lost my homework” excuse is now “My child has ADHD” (1). Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is defined by Paula Anne Ford-Martin as a developmental disorder in school-age children who may exhibit hyperactivity, appear unfocused on specific tasks or assignments, display impulsive conduct, and are easily distracted (1). Behaviors that appear in ADHD diagnosed children are persistent, impulsive, and occur more often and are considered more severe than other children at the same developmental stage of growth (Joughin 3). Children diagnosed with ADHD may suffer a variety of consequences including poor grades in school due to short attention spans, in spite of their average to above average intelligence. They may also exhibit poor interpersonal relationships with their peers and authoritive figures due to their frequent impulsivity by taking action first and thinking later” (Ford-Martin 3).
