Arranged Marriages The book entitled, �The Buddha of Suburbia,� concerns the subject of an arranged marriage. . An arranged marriage is a marriage in which neither the bride nor the groom has any official say over the selection of their future spouse. In the book, �The Buddha of Suburbia,� a woman named Jamilia, refused to marry a man that her father arranged for her. She did not want to marry the man as she had other plans for her future. Jamilia�s angered father would not accept her refusal of an arranged marriage. In order to obtain his daughter�s consent to the arranged marriage; he fasted for days without food or water. Jamilia, finally, consented to the arranged marriage when her father became ill�. Which Shows in the book when the father says, �Our way is firm. She must do what I say or I will die. She will kill me�. Which Jamilia replied and said �It�s stupied! What a waste of time and life!� (pg 60). However, she still went with her fath......
