Statement of Purpose Using two research studies on the topic of student teachers� perception of classroom discipline, this paper will illustrate the comparative strengths and weaknesses of the qualitative and quantitative research methods. The paper will then discuss how the author�s understanding of the way student teachers perceive classroom discipline has been affected because of reviewing these research studies and their results. Student Teachers and Discipline Although qualitative and quantitative approaches to research include many of the same characteristics and involve similar processes, the way these elements are addressed and combined create distinctive differences in both overall processes and the final products of each approach (Leedy, 1997, p. 104).
