Question: The Amarna period, encompassing the reign of Akhenaten, the so-called 'heretic king', was a period of great political, artistic and religious change that had a profound effect on the ancient Egyptians. Discuss this effect, while tracing the types of change that occurred, mentioning the reaction to the period after the death of Akhenaten and the abandonment of his capital at Akhetaten (Tell el-Amarna) The Amarna period, which occurred during the reign of Amunhotep IV, who is more popularly known as Akhenaten, was a period of revolutionary changes in religion, politics and art.
