A Comparison of Characters: Sir Gawain vs. The Knight of the Wife of Bath’s Tale Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Curtis 1 Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” and the unknown author’s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight both involve taking a knight through a twelve-month journey toward potential death. But like most tales of the middle ages, each knight experiences twists and turns along their passage that test their virtue, honor and loyalty. Along their way, the knights of both tales will have learned valuable lessons and each adventure has its own characteristics and people that affect the knight’s in quite different ways. Both authors use allegory, symbolism, and imagery in their description of the knight’s journeys that lead both characters to a personal discovery about their own attitudes and feelings towards women and life and death. In comparing the Knight to Sir Gawain, Chaucer takes the reader from one predicament to another.
