Wilfred Owen is a well-acclaimed WW1 poet known for writing poems with a strong anti-war sentiment through his effective use of provocative and vivid imagery in the portrayal of soldiers in the battlefield. The purpose of both in The Send Off and The Next War is to alert people to the realities of war and to criticise the impersonal and mechanical nature of war. These purposes are conveyed through the distinctive features, which include the underlying theme of each poem, aural and visual imagery and other figurative language.
