There are many parallels that can be drawn between Machiavelli’s The Prince and the philosophy of the modern world. In this essay I will discuss the way the main concepts used by Machiavelli are relevant to the modern political system, leadership, and distribution of power. Machiavelli discusses in detail the way a leader should be and how he should govern to the most efficient extent. He describes the distribution of power between the prince, the political elite and the people. He incorporates these ideas one into another to show the way a political system should operate. Our modern political system could be viewed through the lens of Machiavelli’s ideas. In The Prince Machiavelli sets down the grounds for leadership. He describes The Prince, who possesses the qualities of a leader that would achieve the most success in governing. In order to achieve the most success in governing, a leader must always consider the people who should always be the first responsibility.
