I guess most adolescent males never believe that their young bodies could be fragile and dysfunctional. Often we punish our bodies never fearing the consequences, whether it is physical, when we push ourselves in sporting activities or mentally as we strive to achieve the right answers to daily questions that we face. I was thirteen when I was forced to acknowledge my body�s shortcomings. At the time it was, a reality check, but besides it being physically disadvantageous, the discovery of my illness changed me for the better, made me open up to the world and made me stronger. I was diagnosed in year 8. At the time I was a quiet boy and had few friends, a trait I had carried on from my previous years in the education system. I had prided myself on academic achievements and only participated in the school choir. I was not a sociable person. In fact I considered myself as a social outcast who, though not bullied, found it difficult to engage with my peers.
