The outcome helps me to understand on viewing the two different aspects of the meaning and expressing the symbolism as well as a historical framework to the paintings from the 1600�s to the 1900�s. I would be outlining the two main interpretations of the paintings from the 1600�s and 1900�s of the symbolism and the historical background that they both express. Caravaggio�s painting expresses the emotions and intentions though tone of light and dark. However the painting of David with head of Goliath has a dark tone throughout the whole painting. It mostly is surrounded in an inky black background that hides the forms in dark shadow. A sense of a dramatic contrast has been created by an focussed spotlighting effect, which picks up the paintings key elements and projects them forward out of the shadow and into the bright glare of light.
