Nature-based tourism is a rapidly expanding portion of the world�s travel market. Ecotourism is a type of tourism that has sprung from nature-based tourism. It is a blend of conservation and tourism. The definition of ecotourism adopted by Ecotourism Australia is: "Ecotourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation". The Ecotourism Society defines it as: �responsible travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people". Therefore, a walk through the rainforest is not eco-tourism unless that particular walk somehow benefits that environment and the people who live there.
