of Diction Study: The Rattler In the brief essay, ‘The Rattler’, the author chooses many different diction, syntax, organizational skills, and point of view to evoke emotion in the reader. The effect the reader receives analyzing the writer’s technique is the strong emotions from the writers words depicting the conflict between the human and the snake. The author relies on the point of view to keep readers engaged. Throughout the six paragraphs, the author overwhelms the reader in his word selection. The analysis of the author’s connotations are extreme. The author wrote a simple one page essay and used imperfect diction. In the first paragraph, the author proceeds to tell his reader “the scrubs day savory odors were sweet on the cooler air”. The author chooses an unrealistic word preference because the word savory and sweet do not have the equivalent definition to fit the passage. The author could have rewritten the sentence with a better word choice for example the scrubs lovely day odors were sweet on the cooler air. While the author attempts vivid imagery, he achieve......
