Protein interaction Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

A protein, which is a large molecule that consists of one or more chains of a polypeptide. A polypeptide is defined as a chain of amino acid residues linked together by peptide or amide bonds. Proteins can assume a conformation other than a linear sequence called the primary structure. These structures are the secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures. Understanding these structures is essential to our comprehension of a protein’s function. The primary structure is basically the linear sequence of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds. It is coded for by the DNA, then transcribed to RNA which is eventually translated to the sequence of amino acids. With the use of ribosomes, the primary structure forms into a long chain of amino acids, or polypeptides. The primary structure can then be modified to become a secondary structure or a tertiary structure. A secondary structure arises from interaction with only the polypeptide backbone itself, without any side chain interaction.
