All that could be heard was children, old people and men screaming in terror as we saw people running through the village grabbing us and tying us by our necks and hands to each other, (The captivity of slaves) I was bewildered. Suddenly, rough hands seized me by the neck, I tried to retaliate, but efforts were futile against three men, they tied me around the neck and they tied me to another person, I was in a state of shock and despair, What was happening? Hours of torment passed, it was beginning to get dark; our captors forced us into sheds. They put some of their men to guard us. I felt like the lowest form on earth. We were being consigned to Grenada and we were going there to work as slaves! Immediately I tried to escape, I pushed away the guard but as I made my move loud shots were fired.
