He must also call on the help of an illumined teacher to guide him along his path, for man himself is not disciplined enough to reach Brahman alone. However, man cannot accept the help of an illumined teacher to guide him until he is liberated from the bondage of ignorance. His ties to worldly things, his gross and subtle coverings, his ego, and his appearance must also be emancipated before he will never reach his ultimate Reality. Shankara's view of The Path is a three-fold paradigm between human birth, the longing for liberation, and discipleship to an illumined teacher. Man must have all three of these concepts before he will be able to find his Atman; however, these concepts are not easy to come by.
