Over the past few years, obesity among Americans has been steadily increasing. According to Frances Berg�s Underage & Overweight, �sixty-one percent of adults are overweight or obese, and the number of obese children has tripled in the last twenty years.� Obesity has been referred to as an �epidemic� and it is well on its way of becoming one. Obesity in the United States is rapidly increasing, but the blame should not be put upon the food corporations, it is each individual�s responsibility when it comes to their own weight. Obesity is costing America billions of dollars. The surgeon general estimates that the cost of healthcare and lost wages from obesity-related illness is around $117 billion. Recently, actions have been taken to fight this money problem such as filing lawsuits against food corporations like McDonald�s. People are quick to blame corporations because it�s easy and it takes away the personal responsibility of the individual for their actions.
