Outline your knowledge and understanding of the authorship of Luke�s Gospel The author of Luke is widely recognized as the same author of Acts and the two are inextricably linked. There is book between the book of Luke and the book of Acts, which is the Gospel of John. This creates an argument that the authors are different as the two books do not run into each other. The author of Acts refers to the gospel as �the first treatise� (Acts 1:1). Both Acts and Luke are addressed to Theophilus (Luke 1:3; Acts 1:1), and the Greek of the two is almost identical. At a first read it may appear that Theophilus was a royal leader or some prestigious figure, but the Greek means� Inside the book of Luke his name does not appear throughout and little is suggested to lead to the idea that he is the author, yet there are no other names linked either. We can tell from the prologue that the author was not an eye-witness or around at any of the times when Jesus was there.
