Americans have shown their courage, adaptability, and compassion throughout the terrorist attack in 2001, the Tsunami in East Asia, and the Hurricanes, Katrina and Rita. On September 11, 2001 a terrorist attack altered things in the United States forever. Thousands of people were killed on that horrific day. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, daughters, sons, husbands, and wives were lost. Americans were stunned, but immediately sprang into action. People pulled together to support the families of those lost. Centers to assist in locating missing loved ones were spontaneously established. Individuals and corporation donated 2.2 billion dollars. Prayer vigils were held in homes, churches, and public arenas. American flags appeared on vehicles, businesses, clothing, and homes. Patriotism was the buzzword. People accepted inconvenient security procedures at special events and airports with patience and understanding. This event changed the lifestyles of Americans forever.
