J. Gordon Melton, the founder and director of The Institute for the Study of American Religion once said �One person's cult is another's religion; all religions begin life as cults. An alternative definition is that a cult is a religion which you happen to dislike." Is there truth behind this statement? Is �cult� just a word that can be used to defame a different type of religion? There are many similarities between the two but there happens to be slight differences that define each group. One major similarity shared between the two is the practice of worship. One definition of a cult is, �A system or community of worship and ritual to a higher power,� nothing more, nothing less.
