Ernesto Guevara was one of the most influential and respected men of our time. He gained his respect from the people of South America, through liberating them from corrupt regimes. Guevara made many countries, including Cuba, better places to live. By using guerilla tactics, he and Fidel Castro, presently the leader of Cuba, were able to topple the corrupt Batista regime in Cuba, and free the Cubans from oppression.
Ernesto “Che” Guevara Lynch de la Serna was born on June 14th, 1928 in Rosario, Argentina. He developed severe asthma by the time he was two, and his family moved to Cordoba, in an attempt to improve the asthma. Ernesto was given the nickname Che, which means “buddy” or “pal”. Growing up in Cordoba, Che was primarily educated by his mother, Celia de la Serna. The Guevara de la Sernas were a family that was opposed to the military dictatorship of Juan Perón, and Che quickly began to share these views.
