The middle ages are characterized by an overwhelming amount of oppression over the citizens in Europe. Many citizens of a lower class in society were held back from doing what they wanted because people of a higher rank held them back. People�s desires to do what they had longed for had brought around the idea of Humanism in the Renaissance. Humanism made people well rounded by making them participate in more activities. Increasing the number of activities made the average renaissance citizen smarter than a citizen from the middle ages. The following paragraphs will show how having a well-rounded life made them a smarter person. Three aspects of Humanism are: 1) an ideal person should participate in politics, sports, education, etc; 2) an individual has dignity and worth; 3) people challenged long accepted traditions and institutions. People were encouraged to learn more than what was necessary for daily life.
