The Increase in crime rate is caused by many different factors and is measured by the number of reported crimes for every 100,00 people. The Increase in population, the drug epidemic and the change in family structure are just a few of the causes. Population has a lot to do with the crime rate. The more populated a place, the more likely it is to have crimes. The crime wave in the 60's were a result of woman having a lot of children, they were called "baby boomers" when there is over population there's more people living in poverty, which cause more people to be subject to poverted areas where violent crimes occurs. Over population has effect on employment when there's very little jobs available to people, robbery and theft seems to be the other road of many which lead to an increase in property crimes. In 1960, 161 violent crimes and 4,903 property crimes were reported. The crime rate had went up dramatically over the years mostly in property crimes.
