The assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, was a great and tragic event in the history of this country. Those who wanted equality for all Americans mourned his passing. After Lincoln’s death, the questions about what really happened on April 14, 1864, have not been answered. Many theories have developed over the years. There are three major theories that have survived ridicule: Andrew Johnson was involved with John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln died by way of a simple conspiracy organized by John Wilkes Booth, and the Roman Catholic Church was behind Lincoln’s assassination.
John Wilkes Booth stopped by the Washington Hotel where Vice-President Andrew Johnson was staying approximately 7 hours before assassinating President Lincoln. Booth asked to see Johnson but he was not at home. Booth left him the following note: “Don’t wish to disturb you. Are you at home? J. Wilkes Booth.” Johnson’s private secretary, William A.
