Hobbes vs. Locke Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were philosophers that many say brought upon the enlightenment. They had new ideas about government's role in religion, governmental structure and social issues. Locke said that it is human nature to be social and peaceful. Naturally people would do as they want without interference from other people. He also states that this doesn’t mean that people can do absolutely anything that’s in there own interest. Locke says the people can guide themselves with morals inherent in them relating to property, ownership and the health of others without guidance from the state. This is because in Locke's opinion everybody has the equal potential to discover these laws of nature that provide a form of law without the enforcement of law by the state. These laws are said to come from god and they state that one shouldn’t harm or limit anybody's "life, health, liberty or possessions" .
