harriet tubman Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

My belief's on Harriet Tubman is that she is a very courageous woman. Harriet was believed to be born in 1820 or 1821, nobody’s sure of the exact year. Her real name was Araminta Ross. Her parents’ names were Harriet Greene and Benjamin Ross. Harriet was born on a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland. She later adopted her mother’s name. Harriet began work at the age of 5 as a maid, next as child’s nurse, and then she became a field cropper at age 12. In 1844, Harriet got permission from her master to marry a free black man named John Tubman. In 1847, Harriet’s master died, so she fled north to freedom. In 1850, she made her first trip to free slaves. Harriet freed her sister her sister’s two children. In 1851, she freed her brother. Finally in 1857, she freed her parents. Harriet constantly changed her routes, so that she wouldn’t get caught. While she worked on the Underground Railroad she was known as, “General Tubman”, but there were a few slaves knew her as “Moses”, the leader of her people.
