My belief's on Harriet Tubman is that she is a very courageous woman. Harriet was believed to be born in 1820 or 1821, nobody�s sure of the exact year. Her real name was Araminta Ross. Her parents� names were Harriet Greene and Benjamin Ross. Harriet was born on a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland. She later adopted her mother�s name. Harriet began work at the age of 5 as a maid, next as child�s nurse, and then she became a field cropper at age 12. In 1844, Harriet got permission from her master to marry a free black man named John Tubman. In 1847, Harriet�s master died, so she fled north to freedom. In 1850, she made her first trip to free slaves. Harriet freed her sister her sister�s two children. In 1851, she freed her brother. Finally in 1857, she freed her parents. Harriet constantly changed her routes, so that she wouldn�t get caught. While she worked on the Underground Railroad she was known as, �General Tubman�, but there were a few slaves knew her as �Moses�, the leader of her people.
