Foreign affairs reflect the manner which one nation deals with other countries politically, economically, and socially. At the end of the 19th century, the US emerged as an imperialistic power because of its foreign policies stemming from a gender analysis. Rotter states, ��Gender, like discourses of race, class, and religion, is rooted in systems of power. It does not simply and innocently describe circumstances: rather, it helps to shape the world according to the wishes of those who control (in this case) United States foreign policy� (Major Problems, 18).
