Medard Chouart Des Groseilliers and Pierre Radisson the founders of the Hudson�s Bay Company saw a great need for beaver in Europe and new that there was a great amount of beaver in North America, so they decided to have a company in North America that would trade European goods to the natives in exchange for beaver pelts and pemmican which would be sent back to Europe (Heritage. 1). The Frobishers and Simon Mctavish in Montreal founded the Northwestern Company in 1783. The North-West Company (NWC) was started because the French and the Metis were sick of the over charged pelts they were paying for because of the monopoly the HBC had (Innis. 2).
