Analytical Essay of Phar Lap the film Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Almost every single film and text puts the viewers in a position, which makes the viewers hold a negative or positive opinion of certain characters and events that are portrayed in the film. The film Phar Lap that was directed by Simon Wincer and written by David Williamson in 1983 is an ideal example in which film-makers are positioning the audience to have an opinion. In this film it is obvious that Tommy Woodcock, who was Phar Lap’s strapper, was presented positively, while Lachlan MacKinnon, head of the Victorian Racing Committee, was featured in a more negative manner. Tommy Woodcock was best described as a loving, caring strapper who puts Phar Lap’s interests before anything else and his character was developed to highlight the positive side of racing. He was respectful to his peers by usually addressing them formally. Likewise people started to respect him towards the end of the film, as they realized how brilliant he actually was. Tommy’s love and affection was significantly shown in the film in the opening scenes of the film when he was weeping by the dying “Big Red”......
