Lots people have heard of the Boston Tea Party, but many people don’t know what it was really about. Britain's East India Company had a large amount of tea that they could not sell in England. It was on the verge of bankruptcy. On April, 27, 1773, in Boston Massachusetts, the government passed a Tea Act. This allowed the company to export the tea to the colonies without paying any regular taxes. This basically cut out the middle man. With this law the company could undersell American merchants. This angered many colonial merchants, because they were scared of being replaced or bankrupted. Colonist started to boycott Britain’s East India Company because they did not want to pay taxes. Dockworkers started to refuse to unload tea from ships. On November 28 one of the company’s ships landing in the Boston harbor, this ships was called Dartmouth. Two days later two more of the company’s ships also landed in the harbor, Eleonor, and the Beaver. On December sixteenth thousands of Bostonians and farmers from around the area gathered into the Old South meeting house to hear Samuel Adam......
