One of the main reasons for this tragedy is over-fishing. In Peter Montague�s article �Oceans Without Fish,� he lists three growing trends that contribute to the oceans troubles: 1) Fishermen have implemented new technologies that 2) allow for fishing in deep water and 3) fishing lower on the food chain. If operated on a large scale, fishing can be very lucrative. Most fisheries operate fleets of commercial sized super-trawlers. The price tag for a super trawler is $40 million, and they span the length of a football field. Trawlers drag nylon nets through the water, catching everything along the way, which can yield 400 tons per netting. An estimated 40 percent of what the trawlers catch is considered by-catch, which can consist of untargeted fish, seals, and endangered sea lions. Military technology has been adopted by the super-trawlers to fish in waters a mile dee......
