Having a family member with schizophrenia can be extremely difficult to deal with. Not only is it hard to see them suffer, but it is also hard to take care of them. When someone is diagnosed with schizophrenia, it is almost like the whole family is diagnosed with it; everyone suffers. Being a good support system is important for a family to remember. Someone who is schizophrenic needs to know that people care about him/her and want him/her to get better. In the movie, A Beautiful Mind, John Nash�s wife, Alicia, made a very important decision. She decided to keep John out of the hospital and would take care of him at home. He did end up progressing and got much better. This kind of decision really helped him. Family support plays a huge role in mental illnesses. When someone has a mental illness, they are not in a clear state of mind. They do not make rational decisions and cannot think as clearly as a �normal� person can. Having a good family who really cares about you is important to have for these reasons.
