The background for important issues and being able to understand the issue relies on knowing that issue over time. For example, the threat of the Cold War in America came from the rise of Nazism and the spread of Germans throughout the world in the 1930s. For many significant social and political issues, to have some background of the past is important, and to have a solid understanding of these issues requires a historical outline that reflects all the complexity and uncertainty of the past.
