Since the 1970�s gay and lesbian people in the United States have been trying to practice their right to marry. The problem has been that gay marriage has become one of the most debated topics since then. People have really taken totally opposed sides on this issue. Marriage is when two people make a lifelong commitment in fidelity and love. The meaning of marriage does not restrict on who is to be marry who or not. The Webster dictionary defines it as the following: the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage.
