The fourth amendment states, �The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.� The fourth amendment attempts to balance the concerns of the privacy of citizens with the government�s interest in effective law enforcement. In order for most searches a warrant must be present, which is an order issued by a court authorizing the arrest of someone or the search of a specific location. The fourth amendment protects the rights of an individual so they are not wrongfully or illegally searched.
