Frankenstein Motif- Isolation Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Isolation is a powerful feeling that almost every being has experienced at one period in time. Throughout Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, rejection and seclusion are recurring elements that continually intertwine to form a theme of isolation and alienation. Frankenstein's Creation is the most obvious victim who falls to alienation, but Victor himself also suffers from isolation. Minor characters, such as Justine, are also afflicted with this curse. Justine herself is alienated after the murder of Victor's brother, William, and expresses her feelings to Elizabeth when she says, "And do you also believe that I am so very, very wicked? Do you also join with my enemies to crush me, to condemn me as a murderer?" Justine feels completely alone after her condemnation for killing William, a crime she did not commit. She also wonders if Elizabeth and the family hate her and alienate her for that of which she is accused.
