When Dr. Rudolf Diesel developed the diesel based engine, he intended for it to be run on various types of vegetable derived oils. The proof is in the fact that when he took his engine to the World Exhibition in 1900, he used peanut oil as fuel (Environmental Protection Agency, 2002). Biodiesel is one of the most efficient types of alternative fuels and it should be more available to the public. According to the United States Department of Energy, if the rate of the world�s oil consumption remains constant, the supply of oil will be completely depleted by the year 2040 (Abraham et al, 2004). For this reason, our economy needs to start relying on alternative fuel sources. Currently there are a large number of alternative fuel types in production or development.
