The Future of the NHL The National Hockey League is in desperate situation right now, the NHL owners have locked out the players and there is no NHL season and their looks to be no sign of a clear path anytime soon. This couldn�t have come at a worse time for the NHL. Attendance and television ratings were at an all-time low during the 2003-2004 season. Casual fans may not be back after or if this strike ever ends. Players are also getting very frustrated as many have gone overseas to Europe so they can make money to support their families, others went just so they can play hockey because they love the game so much. The NHL team owners are already talking about creating a new league with different players if the NHL Players Association (NHLPA) and the owners don�t agree on a deal soon. If a new deal is not struck in the near future, I don�t see the NHL lasting very long after a long lockout.
