How does bram stoker prepare the reader for Jonathan Harker’s terrifying discovery that the Count is a vampire?
“Dracula” was written by Bram Stoker in 1897. The story is about a person who goes to Transylvania to sell a house but it’s a vampire’s house. Bram Stoker prepares the reader for Jonathan’s realisation that the Count is a vampire in the first 30 pages. When Jonathan first arrives in Transylvania, he stays in a hostel. He tells the old couple who run it where he is going and they are very unhappy and they give him a cross, a sense of fear is also created in Stoker’s descriptions of the weather, for example on page 13, it says “there is a storm brewing”. On Jonathan’s journey to Castle Dracula some strange things happen. We know this because on page 14 I says so. When Jonathan sees Castle Dracula for the first time it looks scary. As he shakes the Counts hand, we realise that the Count is unusual as it says, “that the Count has very pale skin, sharp teeth and red lips”. (p.17).
