Since the beginning of time women have been looked down by men. They have considered them “dumb” and even a form of property. For a long time, in many women were expected to marry and have children and were not required to have much intelligence. Being physically and emotionally abused by men, women from early 1900’s struggled to break this mold formed by society. But even with the pain of bearing children, raising them, doing household chores, their efforts were never truly appreciated. The stories “Trifles” and “Woman at Point Zero” clearly explore the repression of women in the 1900’s. By showing readers many common signs of women oppression, both stories vividly depict societies which have a negative attitude towards men and take action to oppress them. First of all, regarding the play “Trifles” there are many instances where we can clearly see the oppression of women. Mistreatment, dominance and total indifference to women by men are the main signs of oppression present in this story.
