Philosophers and lawmakers, alike, have struggled with both generations since the beginning of humanity�s need for law. However, the simplest definition of law is the rule of conduct that is necessary and upheld by a state. The terms defining the rule of conduct and the disciplinary measures taken to uphold such conduct has always varied according to ideology; political ideologies gave power to the government, while religious ideologies gave power to the religious authorities. Also, a �politico-religious� ideology would emerge amalgamating the power of the state and religious authority.
