America is based on immigrants. Before 1882 everybody could move to the United States. But after the population grew, America had to make some restrictions according to the immigrants. So over the time, mostly in the 20th century there were a lot of little laws made, which were supposed to increase and to specify the people, who could come to the United States as immigrants. Some Americans thought or still think, that immigrants are a burden for the economy, or on the other side helpful. Basically there are three groups, family sponsored immigrants, employment-based immigrants and diversity immigrants.
