Oedipus Tyrannus was the son of Laius and Jocasta, who were the king and queen of Thebes. When a prophecy declared that Laius will be killed by his son, and Jocasta will marry him, Laius and Jocasta became scared, causing them to pierce and tie Oedipus feet together, and leaving him on the hills of Cithaeron to die. In the play Oedipus Tyrannus by Sophocles, Oedipus was the main character that suffered a huge downfall, but I believe Oedipus� downfall was caused by his fate. Oedipus is a victim of fate. According to http://brainydictionary.com , fate is �the force by which all existence is determined; destiny�, therefore proving that Oedipus was a victim of fate. His fate was determined, and he couldn�t runaway or hide from it. Oedipus fate was unescapable. He never set out to kill his father, but his fate led him to do it.
