How does Priestley use Shelia to help convey his central message to the audience? We see in this play how Priestley conveys his central message via the Inspector and Shelia, who later develops as his sidekick. The Inspector becomes the route delivering the moral to the audience Stressing �we are members of one body� and �are responsible for each other�. He Implies, that you cannot only consider yourself and your family, but every issue links with society as a whole, so therefore actions taken by one man affects everyone. Priestley points this out by making the Inspector prove Mr Birling wrong. After him claiming his main lesson in life �making his own way� and �looking after himself�. Throughout the play we see how the moral is portrayed by different characters, and how Shelia Birling changes and develops as a character.
