In the short story �The Yellow Paper,� by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author uses many of the Gothic Elements through out the story to get the stories message across. �The Yellow Paper� is a prime example of Gothic Literature in many aspects. Elements that are seen in this piece of literature are sexual repression and doppelganger. An example of a gothic element expressed in �The Yellow Paper� is sexual repression. The authors husband John treats her like a helpless child. He feels that she can�t take care of herself because of a nervous condition that he diagnosed her with. �He is very careful and loving, and hardly lets me stir without special directions. I have a schedule prescription for each hour in the day; he takes all care from me, and so I feel basely ungrateful not to value it more.� Although he is very loving towards her he overly loves her and holds her back in fear and disbelieve. He doesn�t think she is well and as a physician is giving a diagnosis to her for his own benefit. He wants perfection and he feels she is to �sick� to do anything without messing it up. ......
