The Hero’s Journey in The Wizard of Oz Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Made in 1939, The Wizard of Oz remains a classic family film, starring Judy Garland as the main character, Dorothy Gale. After getting swept out of Kansas, into the unknown Land of Oz, Dorothy must travel to Emerald City and speak to the Wizard, in order to get back home. Throughout her journey, Dorothy meets new friends, and faces difficulties because of course it’s not an open road to the great wizard. The characters which influenced Dorothy most throughout her journey are Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and her three allies, the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man. Auntie Em provided the determination for the main character, and Dorothy, regretting running away, desperately wanted to be back home with her family. At the end of this powerful inner journey, Dorothy wakes up and realizes it was all just a dream. After getting caught in the midst of the tornado, Dorothy finds herself in the Land of Oz, which seems exquisite, yet unpopulated.
