The death penalty is a heavily debated and often incredibly politicized topic among Americans. Constantly there are discussions and arguments over whether or not the death penalty is an effective deterrent to crime. I would argue that if there is any reason that the death penalty is not a deterrent to crime it is that criminals sentenced to death are assured many years of 3 square meals, the prison community and an education that enables them to secure there release based on loopholes in the criminal code of the state in which they were convicted. It is time that America focused on swift and decisive punishment for murderers and institutes a program in which convicted killers with overwhelming evidence be put to death within two years of their conviction by a trial of their peers. All too often we are so focused on the rights of the criminal who murdered that we forget about the victims, those murdered and those who have survived to deal with the pain and anguish of losing a father or a child. Sometimes the only closure a victim�s family can hope for, the only thing that can start......
