The book Bless Me, Ultima, written by Rudolfo Anaya, uses dreams very frequently in the novel. These dreams largely effect Tony M�rez. The three types of dreams that effect him deal with death, his brothers and his family. He is pressured by these dreams because he is unsure whether or not he should become a priest. Tony is pressured by the deaths of three people in the town. The first death is of Lupito. He had been suffering from the war and recently shot the sheriff. When the town found out, they went on a man hunt for him. When they found him in the river, Narciso tried to negotiate with him, but it was no use and they shot him. Tony wanted to see to how this all played out so he went to the river and saw Lupito die. The next death was of Narciso. He was shot by Tenorio. Again, Tony was present to see the death. The last death Tony witnesses is of Florence when he drowned. These three characters are in Tony�s very last dream and all three of them ask him to bless them. In this dream, Tony hears a voice telling him that everything that he believed....
