The Second Continental Congress made the army that fought the war, selected George Washington as a leader, and also drafted the Declaration of Independence. Without the Second Continental Congress, there would have been no way for the young nation to gather together and make the joint effort required in making the crucial step of declaring their independence. Although they had a great success in leading the Revolutionary War, they were not very successful in setting up a government. The government that the delegates of the Second Continental Congress set up, called the Articles of Confederation, was not effective in creating a government that pleased all colonies and it also failed in the sense that it did not meet the needs of the new nation well at all.
