Ultima, one of the protagonists, controls an owl, which represents her spirit and soul, and she also has an extensive knowledge of herbs, and other healing techniques. Tenorio, the antagonist, has a certain quality of evil magic that surrounds him, and his three daughters can all use magic. In this book, many people can use magic in many different ways. Throughout Bless me, Ultima; it is how people use their power, that shows their true inner self, and how they feel about other people.
