Antisocial personality disorder is defined as "a pattern of irresponsible behavior that lacks morals and ethics and brings the person into conflict with society" (A.D.A.M). This definition highlights the two major features of the disorder. The first is that the individual does not have a regard for other people's rights. This is summarized by the statement that the individual lacks morals and ethics. Importantly, this does not mean that the individual knowingly chooses unethical behavior. Instead, it means that the individual is not able to recognize ethical behavior. The second part of the definition is that the individual is brought into conflict with society. This occurs because the individual violates the rights of others and violates the laws of society.
